Gifted individuals are not all that common and to overlook anyone of them is to stunt mankind's potential.
To illustrate this point in a rather crude way, I wish to refer to a pocket biographical dictionary I own. It basically covers recorded history. It contains the names of some 4000 people (according to my calculations). Some of these VIP's are villains - so one cannot even bank on the fact that they all were a boon to society. Very few people thus have had a dramatic impact on society. One cannot of course discount the possibility that a particular society may owe a large measure of its success to a general population with a better than average IQ - without any particular outstanding individual. But in the end, the gifted individuals should be afforded all assistance to realize their potential.
